The VSA Mt Albert Hospital has a special place in VSA history. On the site of the Unitec campus, this was our first, and New Zealand’s first hospital offering specialist veterinary services. The Mt Albert hospital provided specialist surgery, diagnostic imaging, internal medicine and physio services as well as animal emergency services with 24 hour care.

As in all of our hospitals, our goal is to improve the outcomes of our patients while providing exceptional, advanced veterinary care.

Our specialist animal hospital in Mt Albert is supported by a team of passionate veterinary professionals, veterinary nurses, vets and specialists who enable us to provide advanced veterinary care to our patients.

Leading specialists in Veterinary surgery

Our Mt Albert team was lead by Dr Damian Chase, Registered Specialist in Small Animal Surgery. Dr Damian Chase is now located at our new Auckland West Hospital in Henderson.

Our specialist surgeons provide treatment across a number of disciplines including, but not limited to:

- Orthopaedics
- Neurology
- VSA Cancer Care
- Urinary Tract Surgery and Hydraulic Sphincter Placement
- Soft Tissue Surgery

Diagnostic imaging

Our VSA Mt Albert team has relocated to our new hospital, VSA Auckland West. The team provide advanced diagnostic imaging services to ensure that an in-depth plan can be made and appropriate treatments can be recommended.

At VSA Mt Albert, we had in-house radiographs (x-rays) and ultrasound as well as access to CT and MRI. Dr Mike Coleman led our team to provide our advanced diagnostic services. Dr Mike Coleman is now located at our VSA Auckland West hospital.

Anaesthesia

Our anaesthesia team is lead by Dr Joana Chagas, who is the only registered specialist in veterinary anaesthesia and pain management working in private practice in New Zealand.

VSA Mt Albert is equipped with state-of-the-art anaesthesia machines and monitoring equipment. We can provide advanced care such as mechanical ventilation, invasive blood pressure monitoring and multimodal analgesia - analgesic infusions or local-regional anaesthesia techniques.

Physiotherapy

Physio plays a key role in the recovery of many of our patients and provides a solution to chronic pain-inducing conditions that would otherwise need medication.

Our physiotherapy team work with advanced technology including K-laser treatment and hydrotherapy to give the best possible care and solutions to our patients.

Animal Emergency

Our Animal Emergency at VSA team at our Mt Albert hospital VSA are committed emergency vets and nurses who are passionate about patient care. Our team are available after-hours to take emergency consults, walk-ins and also oversee the hospital care of our referral patients.
