DR YASMINE MESSIAEN
Position: Registered Specialist Small Animal Surgery
Yasmine graduated from St. George’s University in 2015 and has pursued her passion for surgery throughout her veterinary career. Following graduation, she completed a rotating internship and three advanced surgical internships across the United States and Canada, while also gaining valuable experience working as a hospitalist in a busy referral hospital.
In 2024, Yasmine completed her small animal surgery residency and earned a master’s degree in small animal clinical sciences. She then relocated to New Zealand to join the surgical team at Veterinary Specialists Aotearoa. The following year, she achieved board certification as a small animal surgery specialist through the American College of Veterinary Surgeons.
Yasmine’s professional interests include wound management, maxillofacial surgery, minimally invasive procedures, and neurosurgery. She is also particularly passionate about chronic pain management and is dedicated to improving long-term comfort and quality of life for her patients.
Outside of work, Yasmine enjoys exploring New Zealand’s hiking trails, baking, and spending time with her cat and pet chickens.
